6 May, 2010. Mari El Republic. Representatives of the Public Council under the head of Federal Service of Penal Executions of Mari El Republic on problems of activities of correctional institutions visited a pre-trial detention facility №2 of Kozmodemiyansk.

Inhabitants of Jurinskiy and Gornomariiskiy regions of Mari El Republic are waiting for the court judgment in this detention facility. The pre-trial detention facility of Kozmodemiyansk is one of the smallest in Russia. Its limit is 110 people.

It is a very old building and it is very difficult to keep it with standards, but the administration of this facility does the best to keep it in a good condition.

7 people applied to the lawyers of RPO “Human being and Law” for legal assistance there. They all received qualified aid. Recommendations on some issues were given to the Administration.

The Public Council under the head of Federal Service of Penal Executions of Mari El Republic was found in 2004 year. The main purpose of the Council is to make conditions of detention in correctional colonies open for society.
