These days in Moscow the European Union and Russia are holding consultations on human rights issues, which are regularly carried out from November 2004, every six months. This year a number of activities within the frames of this work are focused on the work of human rights organizations and their security.
At the moment training on the security of human rights defenders is being held.
In many countries non-governmental organizations work in difficult and stressful conditions in order to facilitate the effective protection of human rights and democracy. The European Union considers the work with such organizations as one of its priorities. The training program involves a risk assessment of the human rights organization, introduction of specific examples from the life of modern Russia, and as a result, the development of security strategy. Particular attention will be paid to security of informational systems.
On March 25, 2010 the seminar on current projects EIDHR (European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights) in Russia will be held.
The European Union protects human rights and strengthens democratic values in its relations with other countries. In December 2006, the European Union has decided to continue the action of the program EIDHR, at least for the next seven years. The amount of financial support for the period from 2007 to 2013 will be approximately 130 million Euros per a year for the whole world.
During the seminar, participants will have the opportunity to represent their projects, understand the particularities of financial management, communications strategy, reporting. By the way, since the beginning of its work in Russia in 1997, the EIDHR has provided support to more than 250 projects.
