March 16, 2010 year. Regional public organization “Human being and Law” took part in a training seminar on the basics of volunteer activities for leaders of supporting institutions in the municipalities of the Republic of Mari El.

The organizers of the meeting were the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Mari El and the Mari Republican Youth Public Organization “OPORA”.
The seminar was attended by leaders of public associations and teachers-heads of volunteer associations, specialists on the work with youth of municipalities of the Republic of Mari El.

In order to promote youth voluntary movement in every municipality of the Republic it is planned to create a supporting platform for the development of volunteer activities.

The supporting platform is a youth association, implementing volunteer programs. The head of the supporting platform will be a coordinator of youth volunteer activity in the municipality.

Following organizations showed presentations of their volunteer programs: Youth public association “SAMI” (Kazan), “Donori detyam”; Children youth public organization of Yoshkar-Ola “Zerkalo”, MRMOO “OPORA”; Association of organizations for children and teenagers of Mari El Republic “Er viy – Yunaya Sila”; Association of organizations for children and teenagers of Yoshkar-Ola “Raduga”; Faculty of pedagogic and psychology of GOY VPO “Mari State University”; Public Association of Mari El Republic “Fond ecologicheskih initsiativ”.

Presentations of invited associations have helped participants to get acquainted with the existing projects and programs in the field of volunteerism, have opened up prospects of cooperation and further work of supporting platforms.

RPO “Human being and Law” uses volunteer assistance in its activities. Volunteers help in organizing events. These are people who once appealed to human rights defenders and now they have an idea of what the organization does, what services it can offer. The most active volunteers are in villages of Sernur, Kilemari and the town of Volzhsk.

But the main field of the work of RPO “Human being and Law”, where the work of volunteers plays an important role, is the work in places of detention. A concrete example is the cooperation with Novotroitsk penal colony, which allows carrying out a wide range of activities.
Dealing with volunteers, juvenile delinquents see positive examples, expand the scope of their interests, find new positive priorities.
